Here at Broad Financial, we’re often asked to describe what we do, since Self-Directed IRAs are such a little known commodity in the retirement investing spectrum.
And the description I keep coming back to is: We are enablers. And no, not the kind of enablers you might be thinking of. Enablers in the most positive sense of the term.
Our essential function is to open doors that might have previously seemed closed. The vast majority of potential clients who contact us find us because they have some kind of investment opportunity and they’re looking for ways they can take advantage of that opportunity. Often times, they have money stored away in an IRA or 401(k), and they want to harness those funds for a current investment. But they don’t know how to do it, or if they will get slammed with penalties.
That’s where we come in. What we really do is connect your future with your present. That’s it, that’s all it is, it’s like retirement investing for wise guys (to borrow a phrase from Goodfellas).
Retirement funds are meant for just that, retirement. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be leveraged for an opportunity you have today.
Here’s how we “enabled” Broad Financial client Terry O’Malley and what he was able to do after we opened those doors (yes, that’s me in the top left corner):
The overwhelming response we hear from clients who have opened a Checkbook IRA is that they had no idea this was possible. And they can’t believe how easy it is, or why they’ve never heard of this before.
And we understand that can be jarring. If this is so great, why is it such a mystery? It would be like if the only place you could get pizza was at a “hole in the wall” restaurant in New York City that no one ever heard of. Why don’t more people know how great pizza is?
Because it’s not on the menu at the large IRA brokerages like Fidelity, Schwab, or TD Ameritrade. Because if they educated you on this, you’d take your retirement money off their platform and into your own hands. So the giants have kept it a secret. But doesn’t everyone love knowing about a “hole in the wall” restaurant with great food and small crowds?
So just by being here, you’re in the know. And when the time is right, we can enable you as well, just like Dave and Lorraine:
“I have owned my own business for 25 years and have contributed to my IRA annually. A few years ago I had an opportunity to buy an investment property, but it was in disrepair and not mortgageable. I did not have the funds available to purchase it as cash, but I did have the money saved in my IRA. I did some research online and found Broad Financial; it seemed like a good fit for what we wanted to do. Through the guidance of Broad Financial and our accountant, we switched our IRA that was somewhat stagnant to a self-directed IRA and purchased our first investment property. That property was so successful, that my wife did the same thing and now we own two. The amount of money that our self-directed IRAs make is significantly more than when it was sitting and we actually have two houses to show for it now. We would highly recommend anyone that has an opportunity to buy real estate, but may not have the funds available, to consider contacting Broad Financial and their accountant to discuss options. We are very happy with our decisions and our children will benefit as well.”

It’s your knowledge. It’s your opportunity. We just help you get there.
